Located in the heart of Edinburgh, CODE Hostel offers a unique blend of modern comfort and rich history. Set in a beautifully restored historic building that actually used to be a jail!

When it comes to hostels - I look for a few things when I am doing my initial search.
1. Cleanliness: I want the highest-scored cleanest-rated hostel in the lands because I know I will feel more comfortable in a clean space.
2. High rating by other women. I need to know what the girls think of the place!
3. Location: is it above a bar? Is it near the train station? Does it have a sketchy dark walk up? I gotta know before I get there where I am going to be walking back to at night!
When it came to finding a place in Edinburgh to stay for my trip transition night (once I've landed in the city, before I head off on a roadtrip of the highlands) I needed a quick place for the day and night. I decided to save myself some money by staying in a hostel so I could spend on the would-be-expensive-fuel for the car trip.
I found the CODE Hostel in Edinburgh on the hostelworld website and was impressed by it's reviews, location and cleanliness. It also had the incredible price of 18 British Pounds per night!
The building that houses CODE Hostel dates back to the 19th century, and its elegant architecture showcases the timeless beauty of Edinburgh's Old Town. The character in this place is like no other hostel I have ever stayed at - and for that reason, it's stayed as a memorable place in Scotland.
Inside there are dorms, private rooms, a fully-equipped kitchen where you can cook or sit to eat and a front sitting room that has a cafe built into the front desk. The staff are so incredibly welcoming and there is a very calm and warm vibe to the place. Game nights are offered as well as tours of the local area and the building itself but I wouldn't categorize this hostel as a full-blown party hostel. I'm over 30 and I enjoyed it just as much as the 19 year-old group I met checking in!
Located just a short walk from famous attractions like Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Arthur’s Seat, CODE Hostel is ideally positioned for those looking to explore the city’s history and culture. Guests can also enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast to fuel their adventures through this beautiful city.
If you are a first time visitor to Edinburgh looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay or a first time hostel-stayer I would recommend the CODE hostel.
As always, please remember to bring slippers, a locker lock and a face towel to your hostel! This is my golden rule for making your stay more comfortable!
